Responsibilities:

Client Assessment & Treatment:
-
Conduct thorough client consultations to assess their physical condition, medical history, contraindications, and treatment goals.

Perform physical assessments (e.g., postural analysis, range of motion testing) to identify areas of muscular dysfunction or tension.

Develop and implement client-centred, evidence-informed treatment plans using a range of advanced massage techniques.

Offer a range of massage modalities, including Remedial, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, Relaxation (Swedish), Pregnancy Massage, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

Monitor client comfort and progress during sessions, adjusting techniques and pressure as required.

Professional and Ethical Practice (Industry Standard):

Adhere strictly to the Massage Aotearoa New Zealand (MANZ) Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, including professional boundaries and client rights under the Health and Disability Commissioner's Code of Rights.

Maintain absolute client confidentiality and privacy of all health information and records.

Obtain and document informed consent for all treatments prior to commencement.

Operate within the Scope of Practice as defined by the therapist's qualifications (e.g., Level 5, 6, or 7).

Practice in a manner that is inclusive and culturally responsive, demonstrating an understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi) as applied to health practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Administration and Clinic Management:
-
Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date client treatment records and case notes.

Advise clients on self-care, stretching, relaxation techniques, and lifestyle modifications to support long-term wellness and injury prevention.

Manage bookings, payments, and scheduling efficiently.
-
Ensure the treatment room and equipment are clean, hygienic, and well-maintained in line with health and safety regulations.

Manage and sterilise tools and equipment as necessary.

Interprofessional Collaboration:
-
Recognise the limitations of personal practice and refer clients to appropriate qualified health professionals (e.g., Physiotherapist, GP, Osteopath) when necessary.

Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and other healthcare providers.

Requirements and Skills:
- A qualification assessed as comparable to a New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) approved Diploma in Therapeutic or Remedial Massage (Level 5 or 6), Bachelor of Health Studies (Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy) or equivalent (Level 7), or three years of relevant work experience.
- Current First Aid Certificate (including CPR), ideally from a course covering Unit Standards 6401 and 6402 (Comprehensive First Aid), is an advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology.
- Proficiency in a variety of therapeutic massage techniques.
- Strong clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills for assessment and treatment planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport and effectively manage the therapeutic relationship.
- High level of physical fitness, health, and stamina.
- Strong hands and arms for performing manual therapy.
- Caring, sensitive, and empathetic demeanour.
- Professional presentation and a reliable, positive attitude.
- Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.
- Must be an NZ Citizen, NZ Resident, or eligible to work in NZ.
This is a full-time, permanent role, and the hourly pay rate ranges between NZ$25 and NZ$35, depending on experience and qualifications. The work hours are a minimum of 30 hours to a maximum of 70 hours per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
