Saigon Xin Chao is seeking a skilled and passionate Vietnamese Chef to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organising, preparing, and cooking authentic Vietnamese dishes. The role requires a strong understanding of Vietnamese culinary traditions, ingredients, and cooking techniques. This position involves teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organise, and supervise the preparation and cooking of food items according to restaurant standards and menu requirements.

  • Prepare and cook a range of traditional Vietnamese dishes using authentic methods and ingredients.

  • Ensure all dishes meet quality, taste, and presentation standards before service.

  • Monitor and maintain stock levels; assist in ordering supplies as required.

  • Oversee food safety and hygiene standards in all kitchen and preparation areas.

  • Work collaboratively with kitchen and service staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

  • Assist team members as needed to ensure service deadlines are met.

  • Train and guide junior kitchen staff where required.

  • Adhere to all health, safety, and workplace policies and regulations.

 

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a chef, preferably in Vietnamese or Asian cuisine.

  • Proven knowledge and experience in preparing traditional Vietnamese dishes.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

  • Team-oriented attitude and willingness to assist others to achieve kitchen goals.

  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

  • No formal qualification required – on-the-job training and further development will be provided.

  • Must have the right to work in New Zealand or hold a valid New Zealand work visa to be considered for this position, and be willing to undergo a background check and verification of previous employment.
