Job Title: Cook – Sushi & Donburi Japanese Restaurant
Location: Invercargill, Southland
Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Minimum 30 hours and up to 45 hours per week, rostered across 7 days (including weekends and public holidays)
Pay Rate: $25 – $27 per hour
Availability: 1

About the Role:
Sushi & Donburi Japanese Restaurant is a vibrant eatery located in the heart of Invercargill Central Mall, known for its handmade ramen, flavour-packed bento, and other Japanese cuisine. We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Cook to join our kitchen team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment where everything is made in-house.

Key Responsibilities:
● Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese dishes including ramen, bento, sushi, yakisoba, and udon, etc.
● Ensure food is prepared and presented to high standards of quality and consistency.
● Monitor food preparation and portion sizes to maintain cost control
● Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas in line with NZ food safety standards.
● Assist in stock control, ordering, and inventory management.
● Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service during peak hours.
● Follow recipes and presentation specifications.
● Support the training and supervision of junior kitchen staff.

What We’re Looking For:
● Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen or restaurant OR NZQCF Level 4 qualification or higher.
● Experience with Japanese or Asian cuisine is highly desirable.
● Ability to work under pressure and multitask during busy service periods.
● Strong understanding of food safety standards in New Zealand.
● Team player with good communication and time management skills.
