Navagunjara NZ Limited T/A Spagalimis Pizzeria is seeking a qualified and experienced Cook to oversee and perform food preparation and cooking operations at our Pizza Shop. The position requires professional-level cooking skills, including preparing food from raw ingredients, managing kitchen workflow, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring consistent food quality and presentation
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, season, and cook pizza dough, sauces, toppings, and other menu items from raw ingredients following standard recipes and preparation methods.
- Cook pizzas and a variety of other dishes using ovens, grills, and other commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ensure correct cooking methods, portion sizes, and garnishing are applied to achieve consistent presentation and quality.
- Check the quality of raw and cooked ingredients to maintain high food standards.
- Plan and coordinate food preparation schedules to ensure timely service during busy periods.
- Ensure proper storage, labelling, and rotation of all food items in compliance with New Zealand food safety regulations.
- Maintain kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, and compliance with the Food Control Plan and occupational health and safety standards.
- Supervise and train kitchen assistants or junior staff in food preparation, portion control, and hygiene practices.
- Monitor stock levels, conduct daily inventory checks, and assist with ordering and receiving supplies.
- Collaborate with management to develop new recipes, seasonal dishes, and improve menu offerings.
- Uphold compliance with all food handling, sanitation, and hygiene standards required under New Zealand law.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum two years of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen OR a Level 4 or higher qualification (NZQF or equivalent).
Excellent organisational, multitasking, and teamwork skills; prior experience supervising kitchen staff is preferred.
Basic understanding of inventory management, portion control, and cost management.
Must be available for weekends, public holidays, early mornings, and late shifts.
Must hold valid work authorisation to work in New Zealand.
Full and clean driver’s licence preferred.
Must have a clean character record and be willing to undergo drug and alcohol testing as per company policy.
