About the role

We are seeking a Technical Officer to join our team. 

Lifetech Laboratories delivers high quality tissue culture plantlets for customers around the world.  It is the role of the Technical Officer to manage and lead activities in the laboratory that lead to increased output quality.  The role also encompasses responsibilities for the effective and efficient use of business resources. 

The Technical Officer also operates the Lifetech Laboratories Media Kitchen.  The media kitchen produces plant tissue culture media, primarily for internal use by formulating chemical ingredients to predefined recipes with the output being media pottles. 

The Technical Officer duties require a scientific focus on improving plant health and growth, recognition of laboratory efficiencies and best practices, and managing team workflows.   The role requires maturity and problem-solving skills with the ability to follow instructions. 

This position is a full-time, permanent role working 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday.  

Primary Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities – Technical

·       Ensure staff compliance with Lifetech Health and Safety policies and procedures

·   Inspects and ensures high quality of plant tissue culture which matches pre-determined tissue culture specifications set by Lifetech

·       Prepare reports to Management and maintain records on plant tissue culture quality status

·       Implement and undertake tests and inspections of plant tissue culture quality

·       Devise new tests and maintenance of schedules of testing

·      Regular inspections of the laboratory facility to ensure high levels of sterility /cleanliness are maintained in order to meet quality standards

·        Assures ongoing compliance with quality and plant industry regulatory requirements

·        Determine methods to resolve any plant tissue culture quality compliance issues that arise

·       Coordinate and support on site audits conducted by external providers

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities – Media Kitchen

·       Preparation of media base stocks

·       Preparation of media formulations, strictly to recipes

·       Preparation and pouring production of tissue culture medias to specifications, delivering as to programs

·       Running autoclave cycles for media, plant waste, paper and instruments/bottles

·       Labelling and recording of media

·       Performing media stocktakes, including aging, gradings and disposals

 

Requirements

·       Diploma Level Qualification or Higher – in science or a related subject

·       At least 1-year relevant work experience as this is not an entry level role

·       Work Experience should include water filtration, including ion exchange systems, conductivity calibration and testing, toxicity testing or comparable work experience

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills
