Develop and maintain automation workflows and internal tools to streamline hosting operations

DevOps Engineer (Intermediate to Senior)

We are a New Zealand-based web hosting company known for exceptional customer service and clever technology solutions. For more than two decades, we've built a reputation as the kind of team people trust with their websites, infrastructure, and problems — big or small.

We're growing and looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our Product and Automations Team. This role sits between Development and Operations. We're looking for someone who is comfortable working with both code and infrastructure, and who enjoys solving problems that don't always fit neatly into one category.

Working on the front lines of a busy web hosting company means you'll get exposure to a broad range of technical challenges. We're looking for someone with solid programming and systems development skills, alongside strong Operations aptitude. You won't just be expected to code — you'll be putting those skills to use regularly.

Your work could include:

  • Automating workflows and improving operational processes
  • Building internal tools for our Operations team
  • Building and consuming APIs
  • Debugging complex infrastructure and systems issues
  • Working across a broad range of infrastructure and programming languages
  • Contributing to improvements across our systems and products
  • Working alongside talented developers on new and existing products
  • Helping our Operations team become more productive through better tooling and automation

You'll report to the head of a wider team while working as part of small, sprint-based project teams. We have a great team that knows how to get things shipped while keeping things relaxed and friendly. You'll have plenty of opportunities to get involved across the stack and work on projects that directly benefit our customers and internal teams.

This is an Auckland-based role working from our Penrose office. We take flexible working seriously, but due to the collaborative nature of our engineering teams and the infrastructure we work with, this role is primarily office-based.

Keep reading if you can demonstrate:

  • Experience building and consuming APIs, along with a good understanding of hosting fundamentals such as DNS, networking, and web servers
  • Strong hands-on experience with PHP, Python, Go, or a similar language
  • Solid hands-on experience with Linux and server operating platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly and work effectively with others

It would also be great if you have:

  • An eye for spotting potential UI/UX issues
  • Experience with cloud services
  • Experience with LAMP stacks
  • Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers

You'll join a friendly, supportive team where people enjoy having fun while getting things done. We have a relaxed office environment, great coffee, and a strong focus on flexible working and work-life balance.

We're also serious about helping our people grow. You'll have plenty of opportunities to deepen your technical knowledge, develop new skills, and take on new challenges.

In return, we expect you to take initiative, be willing to step outside your comfort zone, and own your professional growth.

Competitive remuneration Flexible working Relaxed and friendly workplace Strong learning and development focus Supportive and experienced engineering team Focus on work-life balance Opportunities for long-term career growth
