Gandhi & Desai Limited is seeking a reliable, customer-focused and motivated Retail Assistant to join Sip N Dip, a retail food establishment specialising in acai bowls, desserts, beverages and related food products in the Marlborough region.
Key Responsibilities

Welcome customers, provide friendly service and assist with enquiries about acai bowls, desserts, beverages, ingredients, prices and product availability.

Take customer orders accurately in person and through the applicable ordering/POS system.

Operate POS/EFTPOS systems, process cash and electronic payments, and handle sales, refunds and exchanges as required.

Prepare and assemble acai bowls, desserts, beverages and other menu items in accordance with established recipes and presentation standards.

Portion, arrange and present ingredients, toppings, sauces and other products accurately and consistently.

Replenish ingredients, toppings, packaging, beverages and retail products as required.

Receive deliveries, check quantities and product condition, and store ingredients and products appropriately.

Assist with stock ordering, stock counts, inventory checks and communication with suppliers.

Monitor product use-by dates and rotate stock using FIFO principles.

Remove damaged, spoiled or expired products and report stock issues to management.

Maintain product pricing, labels, menu information and promotional displays.

Maintain clean, hygienic and organised customer service, preparation, storage and back-of-house areas.

Clean and sanitise food preparation areas, counters, equipment, utensils and other work areas in accordance with food safety requirements.

Follow food safety, hygiene, health and safety procedures when handling and preparing food and beverages.

Assist with opening, closing, cleaning and daily shift handover procedures.

Handle customer queries and complaints professionally and refer matters to management where required.

Report hazards, incidents, stock discrepancies, cash discrepancies and security concerns to management.

Follow applicable food safety, security, loss-prevention and emergency procedures.

Work cooperatively with other staff to ensure efficient customer service and smooth day-to-day operations.
Skills and Experience
NZQF Level 2 or Level 3 qualification relevant to the role OR at least one year of relevant work experience.
Either relevant work experience or a relevant qualification is required.
Other Requirements
Previous retail, dairy, supermarket, convenience store or grocery experience is preferred.
Good customer service, communication and organisational skills.
Basic numeracy and ability to accurately handle cash, prices and change.
Reliable, punctual, honest and able to work effectively in a team.
Good attention to detail when checking stock, deliveries, prices and expiry dates.
Ability to stand for extended periods and safely handle stock as required.
Willingness to work weekends, early mornings, evenings and public holidays as rostered.
Willingness to follow food safety, health and safety, security and store procedures.
Must have valid New Zealand work rights.
Successful applicant must be willing to undergo a clean character check and drug and alcohol testing.
Reliable transport or suitable travel arrangements for rostered shifts.
