PTL are looking for two passionate structural engineers to join our dynamic team of structural and fire engineers based in Christchurch.
The Role:
The successful applicants will work as part of our Christchurch-based team while collaborating with colleagues across our Auckland and Queenstown offices.
Hours and Remuneration:
Minimum guaranteed hours: 37.5 hours per week.
NZD $65,000.00 to $75,000.00 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Performance-based bonuses may be available in addition to base salary but are not guaranteed.
Key Responsabilities
The Structural Engineer will be responsable for:
- Structural analysis and design of buildings and other structures using a variety of construction materials.
- Preparation and review of engineering calculations, reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Coordination with clients, architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
Site inspections and construction monitoring to ensure compliance with design requirements. - Assist with managing the operation of PTL’s testing laboratory, including preparing test specimens, safely operating testing equipment and power tools, undertaking material tests, maintaining equipment and laboratory records, and preparing technical testing reports.
- Assisting with project planning, delivery, and quality assurance processes.
- Providing technical advice and engineering solutions throughout project lifecycles.
- Contributing to innovative structural solutions, including engineered timber and mass timber projects.
- Supporting the successful delivery of projects to programme, budget, and quality requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
To be considered for this role, applicants must have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Structural Engineering with at least 6 months of structural engineering experience involving the application of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant New Zealand structural design standards.
- Demonstrated practical experience in safely operating workshop tools and laboratory testing equipment, including universal testing machines.
- Demonstrated experience preparing test specimens, undertaking material testing, interpreting test results and preparing technical testing reports.
- Demonstrated experience in the design and construction monitoring of engineering projects.
- The ability to independently manage engineering tasks and deliver high-quality project outcomes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
- The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, and colleagues.
- A current full driver licence and the ability to travel independently to project sites is an essential part of the role.
Desiderable Experience:
- A relevant trade qualification or demonstrated practical experience in carpentry, timber fabrication, construction, workshop operations or a comparable practical technical environment.
