We require a Welding supervisor to ensure quality is maintained and throughput in our workshop is not delayed. This is an opportunity to make this role your own and work closely with the welders, Fab QC and workshop Manager to ensure every piece of steel is checked and approved prior to painting.
John Jones Steel are one of the largest and most advanced structural steel fabricating enterprises in New Zealand, with over 60years experience. We operate throughout the South Island and have a proven ability to successfully undertake structural steel projects of any magnitude.
We are currently seeking an experienced Welding Supervisor/QA to join our team in Christchurch, this is a full-time, permanent position in our main workshop. As a welding supervisor you will be responsible for overseeing the welders and ensuring quality standards are met/adhered to and be part of implementing change/best practice in our welding projects. This role is essential to our projects meeting quality standards and project specifications.
What will you do;
- Oversee welding projects throughout the workshop from start to finish
- Conduct regular inspections on welds at start, during, and end to ensure a quality weld output
- Maintain accurate welding procedures/inspection records
- Liaise with workshop manager and project managers to ensure delivery on time, on spec
- Provide training and guidance to new welders on best practice/safety/equipment operation
- Management of weld equipment/machines
- Arrange 3rd party inspections as required
- Do regular testing on welders as required to ensure tickets remain valid
What we are looking for;
- Minimum 10 years' experience as a welder with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity
- NZ welding qualifications HERA welding supervisor AS2214.1
- Strong understanding of welding standards, codes, and quality control procedures
- Comprehensive knowledge of welding processes and materials (including MIG, TIG, and stick welding)
- Proficiency in visual testing and repair works
- Somone who can work with the welders to ensure repeated fails/repairs do not occur
- Familiarity with Quality management systems to AS/NZS 1554, AS/NZS 5131, SFC and AS/NZS ISO 3834
- Ability to work with people of all cultures and skill levels
- Someone who can identify issues early and work with the team to mitigate/manage
- A person who will support/guide staff who may need upskilling/training
