Helicopter Ground Crew – New Zealand
Ground Crew
Company: Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters Location: Queenstown, Otago Type: Full time
Description
Ground Crew
Permanent Full Time Position
We're looking for an enthusiastic Ground Crew member to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys keeping busy, being part of an exciting industry, and meeting people from all around the world — all while working with Queenstown's leading helicopter operator.
Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters is locally owned and has been operating since 1980, pioneering glacier landings. We pride ourselves on delivering a truly professional service, supported by a great team of people.
As part of our Ground Crew, you will play a key role in the daily running of our helicopter operation, supporting all ground-based scenic and commercial activities. This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same.
Tasks include:
- Driving courtesy coach
- Hosting and checking in clients
- Conducting safety briefings
- Assisting with helicopter loading
This role also includes a strong focus on general housekeeping and operational support, such as cleaning, lawn mowing, emptying bins, restocking supplies, and assisting with fuel operations (including driving mini tankers).
Beyond these core tasks, you will be expected to take initiative and assist with any other duties required to keep the operation running smoothly. A proactive, team-first attitude is key.
This is a role within the tourism and aviation industry, and as such, flexibility is essential. Operating hours are driven by weather, flight schedules, and guest demand, meaning early starts, late finishes, weekends, and public holidays will be part of the role. If you are seeking a standard 9–5 position, this role may not be the right fit. However, if you thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and enjoy variety in your workday, this role can be incredibly rewarding.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A full and clean driver's licence
- Outstanding customer service skills
- A Dangerous Goods endorsement (preferred but not essential)
- The legal right to live and work in New Zealand
No aviation experience required but professionalism, enthusiasm and a strong commitment to health and safety is essential. If you have a willingness to learn and develop, this is the role for you!
