Coordinate loading operations for helicopter missions and support pilots on remote sites

Helicopter Load Master – New Zealand

Skywork Helicopters operates a commercial helicopter service throughout the North Island region, providing a wide variety of services to its clientele, including agricultural operations, power line maintenance, transferring personnel for tourism and infrastructure servicing as well as lifting of construction materials into remote sites to name a few. We are a call-out service as well as maintaining seasonal work programs.

The job requires someone who understands the ad hoc nature of the service of the company and is ready to respond to support clients as needed and flexible to respond as needed. It is not a 9 to 5 job, but comes with its rewards, as you get to experience sights many others never get to see, and work with a variety of clients in interesting types of work, ranging not only from those above, but also get engaged with aerial firefighting responses, to other equally interesting work associated with the protection of our native flora and fauna.

You need to be physically fit, energetic, and professionally tidy in your appearance, as well as able to listen and follow instructions. Being mechanically minded is also helpful, but training will also be provided where needed, however, you do need to be a competent driver and can confidently back or manoeuvre a trailer. Due to the ad hoc nature of the business, and long hours of some days when operations are happening, we require you to live within 20-25 minutes of the company base at New Plymouth. If you are applying and don't live nearby, you should advise that you would be prepared to move to New Plymouth if you were successful on application.

A typical day would involve driving to the work site with the fuel and equipment needed for that job type, and then assisting the pilot with loading the aircraft whether it be lifting materials or filling tanks for the application of agri-chemicals onto designated farmer or forestry sites. This job does also require a person who is procedural, and understands the necessity for safe work practices, and enjoys maintaining and cleaning aircraft and equipment to a high standard. There are also times that you do fly directly with the pilot to job sites, depending on the nature of the job.

A lot of training is provided by the company, and over-time you will gain numerous qualifications. A Class 2 and 4 Driver Licence is preferred, as is a Dangerous Goods licence, but these can be obtained at a later date.
