KL Boys Limited is an automotive workshop based at 17 Bandon Street, Frankton, Hamilton, providing mechanical servicing and repairs, panel beating and vehicle painting for private and commercial light vehicles. The business is owned and run by a small, hands-on team committed to quality workmanship and good service for local customers.

Job Description:

We are looking for one skilled Panel Beater for our automotive workshop in Frankton, Hamilton. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a minimum of 32 guaranteed hours per week Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 5.30pm, with up to 40 hours per week available. The hourly wage ranges from $30 to $40, depending on experience and skills. The work is based at our workshop in Frankton, Hamilton.

1.     Inspect damaged vehicles to determine the extent of damage and the repair method, and estimate the time and parts needed.

2.     Remove damaged panels and parts, and remove upholstery, trims and accessories to gain access.

3.     Remove dents by hammering and shaping panels using dollies, hammers, pullers and other panel-beating tools.

4.     Straighten damaged vehicles, body frames and parts using mechanical and hydraulic equipment, and check body alignment using measuring systems.

5.     Replace badly damaged sections with new or second-hand panels.

6.     Cut and join replacement sections using welding equipment, following manufacturer repair procedures.

7.     Fill depressions with plastic filler, and file, grind and sand repaired surfaces ready for painting.

8.     Repair plastic and fibreglass components such as bumpers.

9.     Fit repaired or replacement panels and refit body hardware such as door locks, handles, lights and trims, and check panel gaps and fit.

10.  Follow health and safety procedures, wear the required PPE, keep the workshop clean and organised, and complete job cards accurately.

Requirements of the position offered

1.     A collision repair (panel beating) trade qualification at NZQCF Level 4 or a comparable qualification, or at least two years of relevant work experience as a panel beater, is required.
