Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Greet and assist customers, including local shoppers and international tourists, in selecting suitable souvenirs, gifts and other retail products.

  2. Provide customers with information and advice on product features, prices, materials, availability and care instructions.

  3. Demonstrate and promote a variety of New Zealand souvenirs, locally made products, clothing, accessories and gift items to customers.

  4. Assist customers with purchases, handle sales transactions, and ensure accurate payment processing.

  5. Assist with stock management, including receiving deliveries, checking inventory levels, replenishing shelves and participating in regular stocktakes.

  6. Arrange and display merchandise attractively, ensuring products are correctly priced, labelled and presented to encourage sales.

  7. Wrap and package purchased items carefully, including fragile souvenirs and gifts, to ensure customer satisfaction.

  8. Respond to customer enquiries, handle product exchanges and returns, and refer complaints to management when necessary.

  9. Maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming retail environment, including sales counters, shelves and product display areas.

  10. Support promotional activities, recommend suitable products and assist in achieving daily sales targets.

Skills and Requirements

  1. Previous experience in retail sales or customer service is preferred.
  2. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to provide friendly and professional service to customers from different cultural backgrounds.
  4. Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and busy tourist seasons.
  7. Interest in New Zealand souvenirs, gifts and locally made products.
