About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, reliable and highly versatile handyman to join our team, working primarily
on residential property renovations and improvements, as well as ongoing property maintenance across Auckland.
This is a varied, hands-on position that goes beyond basic handyman work. We need someone who is practical, resourceful, adaptable and comfortable taking responsibility for a wide range of tasks.

The successful applicant must be capable of working independently, solving problems, coordinating with tradespeople and communicating professionally with property owners, neighbours, contractors and other stakeholders.
This is not a conventional 9 am–5 pm position. Flexibility, reliability and a willingness to work irregular hours are essential.

Key Responsibilities
Renovation, Repairs & Maintenance
 Carry out general property repairs, maintenance, improvements and renovation work.
 Perform minor carpentry, plastering, painting, patching, finishing and installation work.
 Repair and replace doors, locks, hinges, handles, cabinetry, shelving, fencing and other fixtures.
 Assist with demolition, site preparation, construction-related tasks and renovation projects.
 Undertake basic landscaping, lawn mowing, gardening and exterior property  maintenance where required.
 Assist with property presentation, rubbish removal, site cleaning and preparation for property sales or settlements.
 Diagnose practical maintenance issues and identify efficient, cost-effective solutions.
 Purchase, collect and transport tools, materials and supplies as required.
 Attend urgent property maintenance issues, including occasional after-hours emergencies.

Trade Coordination & Site Management
 Work alongside and assist builders, plumbers, electricians, painters, plasterers and other tradespeople, within the limits of the employee’s competencies and applicable licensing requirements.
 Have a basic understanding of common building trades and the sequence of renovation and construction work.
 Meet contractors on site, provide access, explain required work and communicate progress or issues to management.
 Coordinate minor maintenance and repair tasks with external contractors.
 Identify issues on site and communicate them promptly, including providing photographs and progress updates.
 Assist with supervising or monitoring straightforward works when required.

Communication & Property Access

 Communicate professionally and respectfully with neighbours, residents, contractors, suppliers and real estate agents.
 Approach neighbours to discuss proposed works, access arrangements or permissions, such as fencing repairs or replacements, and refer formal approvals to management.
 Meet real estate agents, contractors and other authorised visitors to provide access to properties, including for inspections and open homes.
 Coordinate property access and appointments as directed.
 Maintain positive relationships and represent the company professionally.
 Handle property keys, access codes and other sensitive information responsibly.

Essential Skills & Requirements
 Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience (mandatory) in handyman work, property maintenance, residential renovations, building or a closely related field. Applicants must have practical, hands-on experience and be capable of performing common repair and maintenance tasks independently.
 Competence in a broad range of general property repairs, maintenance and practical building-related tasks.
 Basic knowledge of common building trades, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering and electrical work, sufficient to identify issues and coordinate with qualified tradespeople.
 Ability to use common hand tools and power tools safely and competently.
 Strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently without constant supervision.
 Good workmanship, attention to detail and a focus on efficiency.
 Good English communication skills, both verbal and written, sufficient to communicate confidently with neighbours, contractors, residents, agents and management.
 Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate politely, negotiate practical arrangements and handle occasional difficult conversations professionally.
 Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
 Ability to use a smartphone for work instructions, photographs, messaging, task updates and reporting.
 Physical ability to safely perform the manual duties associated with the position.
 A proactive attitude, reliability, accountability and willingness to take responsibility for completing work.

 Vehicle must be roadworthy, appropriately registered, warranted and insured for its intended work use.
 Must be willing to transport smaller tools and materials where reasonably required and suitable for the vehicle.
 Work-related vehicle use will be reimbursed in accordance with the company’s agreed mileage reimbursement policy.
Additional Skills That Would Be Advantageous
 Proficiency in Hindi or Mandarin would be advantageous but is not mandatory.
 Previous experience working on residential renovation or property refurbishment projects.
 Experience coordinating or working alongside multiple trades.
 Knowledge of residential property maintenance and common building defects.
 Experience dealing with neighbours, residents, real estate agents or property managers.
 Ability to carry out basic fencing, landscaping, tiling, cabinetry or other minor improvement work.

Working Hours &Availability
This role requires a high degree of flexibility. Applicants who require predictable working hours, fixed daily schedules or conventional Monday-to-Friday employment are unlikely to find this position suitable.

Applicants must be comfortable with the following:
 Irregular working hours: No fixed daily start or finish times. Working hours will vary depending on operational requirements and agreed work arrangements.
 Weekend work: Must be willing and available to work Saturdays and Sundays, including regularly where required.
 Public holidays: Must be willing to work public holidays where contractually required, with applicable statutory holiday entitlements.
 Late-night work: Must be comfortable occasionally working until midnight, 2 am, 3 am or later when operational circumstances require it.
 Overtime: Must be willing to work additional hours beyond the normal working week when required under the agreed employment arrangements.
 Emergency callouts: Must be willing to participate in agreed after-hours on-call arrangements and respond to urgent property issues, including overnight and on weekends.
 Short-notice changes: Must be comfortable with occasional unexpected changes to schedules, priorities and work locations.
 Varied workloads: Some days may involve straightforward maintenance, while others may involve physically demanding renovation work, urgent repairs or several different properties.
Guaranteed hours, work schedules, compulsory availability, overtime arrangements, reimbursement and other entitlements will be specified in the employment agreement and managed in accordance with New Zealand employment law.

Who We’re Looking For
We are not simply looking for someone who can follow a list of basic maintenance instructions.
We want someone who can identify problems, think independently, organise practical solutions and get things done.

The ideal person is:
 Resourceful and capable of finding solutions rather than just identifying problems.
 Efficient and productive without compromising workmanship or safety.
 Comfortable taking initiative and making sensible decisions within their authority.
 Willing to get their hands dirty and undertake a wide variety of tasks.
 Reliable, punctual and accountable for their work.
 Professional and respectful when dealing with other people.
 Adaptable, particularly when unexpected issues arise.
 Willing to learn new skills and continually improve.
If you prefer narrowly defined responsibilities, fixed working hours or a job where every task is planned and supervised for you, this position is unlikely to be the right fit.

Please submit your CV and a brief description of your relevant practical experience.
Applicants should outline the types of property maintenance, renovation and repair work they can confidently undertake independently, and confirm that they meet the minimum one-year experience requirement and understand the vehicle and working-hours requirements of the position.
