Asphalt Estimator and Quality Assurance Coordinator

RCK is seeking an organised and detail-focused Asphalt Estimator and Quality Assurance Coordinator to support our asphalt and associated civil construction projects across Auckland.

This role combines office-based estimating with onsite quality assurance. You will work closely with our Commercial Manager, Operations Lead, Supervisors and asphalt crews to prepare accurate pricing, calculate material requirements and monitor the quality of completed works.

Employment details

·         Work location: Auckland, including office-based work and travel to project sites across the Auckland region.

·         Employment type: Permanent, full-time.

·         Guaranteed hours: A minimum of 30 hours per week, with additional hours available depending on project requirements.

·         Hours of work: Work may include day or night shifts. Flexibility to work both is essential.

·         Hourly pay range: $28.00 - $40.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Key responsibilities

·         Review drawings, specifications and tender documents to establish project requirements.

·         Attend site visits, take measurements and prepare quantity take-offs.

·         Calculate asphalt, aggregate and other material requirements.

·         Prepare cost estimates covering labour, materials, machinery, transport and subcontractors.

·         Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.

·         Prepare pricing schedules and assist with quotations and tender submissions.

·         Work with the Operations Lead and Supervisors to assess construction methods, resources and production requirements.

·         Monitor actual quantities and costs against estimated allowances.

·         Identify additional works and prepare information to support variations and progress claims.

·         Work onsite with asphalt crews to check surface preparation, levels, thicknesses, temperatures and compaction records against project specifications.

·         Coordinate testing and inspections, maintain quality records and report issues promptly.

·         Follow RCK’s 10 Golden Rules and all company and site health and safety requirements.

Skills, qualifications and experience

·         Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in asphalt, roading or civil construction; OR a relevant qualification in construction, quantity surveying, civil engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

·         Experience in assessing material requirements, monitoring asphalt operations, conducting quality assurance checks and maintaining construction documentation.

·         A sound understanding of asphalt costs materials, construction methods, machinery and site operations.

·         The ability to interpret drawings and accurately calculate areas, volumes, material quantities and costs.

·         Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using estimating or project software.

·         Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with office staff and site crews.

·         Strong attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

·         A current Class 1 driver licence.

·         Flexibility to work day and night shifts as required.
