We're looking for a Paving Department Manager to lead our Auckland Transport North paving team. In this role, you'll deliver maintenance and renewal work that helps keep a large part of Auckland's road network safe, connected and moving. Working across a major Auckland transport contract, this role will make a real difference to how people travel across the region every day.
You'll lead day-to-day operations across planned maintenance, renewals and defect repairs, while driving strong performance in safety, quality, cost, productivity and client outcomes. You'll also build capability across the team, work closely with internal stakeholders and Auckland Transport representatives, and bring a steady, practical leadership style that keeps work moving when conditions change.
The role is based in Mt Wellington, Auckland, working Monday to Friday for 40 hours per week, with some nightshift required depending on the project involved. The target salary range for this role is $130,000 to $150,000 dependent on experience, and travel around the region is required as part of the position.

- Coordinate crews, plant, subcontractors and materials to deliver resurfacing, maintenance, renewals and defect repair work efficiently and to specification.
- Build, lead and support supervisors and field teams, providing clear direction, coaching and performance management.
- Maintain strong safety, quality, environmental and compliance standards, including work in live traffic environments and active road corridors.
- Work closely with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams to solve problems, improve delivery outcomes and keep the programme on track.
We're looking for someone with
- Proven experience leading paving, surfacing, roading or civil maintenance operations, ideally in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of asphalt paving, resurfacing, road repair methods, plant, materials and quality control processes.
- Strong commercial and operational capability, including budgeting, cost control, reporting, scheduling and resource planning.
- A strong understanding of safety, compliance and delivery in live traffic environments, with the ability to respond calmly to changing site conditions and urgent issues.
- A collaborative and accountable leadership style, with strong stakeholder communication skills and the ability to build high-performing teams.
Good work, good benefits
- Medical insurance and Life insurance after the eligibility period.
- KiwiSaver employer contributions after service milestones, up to 7%.
- Parental leave top up payment with additional return to work support.
- Ongoing training and development, with clear career growth and progression opportunities.
