Barefoot Limited seeks a full-time Education Tour Travel Consultant to design bespoke early childhood study tours for Chinese kindergarten groups visiting New Zealand. Focusing on educational product development and programme design rather than hands-on execution, you will create meaningful cross-cultural learning experiences. Fluent English and Mandarin are required, alongside strong knowledge of early childhood pedagogy. A relevant Bachelor's degree (ECE preferred) is highly valued.
Company Overview
Barefoot Limited is a New Zealand organisation specialising in cross-border cultural and educational exchange programmes between New Zealand and China. We design and deliver bespoke early childhood educational study tours, cultural immersion experiences and educator connection initiatives. Our core service focuses on developing age-appropriate educational travel programmes for kindergarten groups and their accompanying families travelling from China to New Zealand. We build long-term collaborative relationships with local early childhood education providers, cultural organisations and activity operators to deliver meaningful learning-focused experiences.
Position Purpose
We are seeking an organised, skilled Education Tour Travel Consultant to join our team. This is a programme design and education consultation focused role, centred on educational product development, rather than hands-on tour execution.
The successful candidate will draw on early childhood education and child development knowledge to research, design, develop and refine educational travel itineraries and learning frameworks. The role covers client consultation, education partnership liaison, pre-programme assessment of learning outcomes, and post-programme review to continuously improve our early childhood study tour products.
Practical on-the-ground programme execution, reservations and booking implementation work are outsourced to contracted travel service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult with client kindergarten groups and families to understand their educational goals, learning priorities, budget and developmental needs of young children.
- Research, design and customise age-appropriate educational travel itineraries and structured learning programmes aligned with early childhood pedagogical principles.
- Apply early childhood education and child development knowledge to assess the educational value, suitability and safety of proposed activities, accommodation settings, family-friendly transport arrangements and destinations for preschool children and their caregivers.
- Develop supporting educational documentation including programme learning objectives, activity guidelines, pre-trip briefings and itinerary frameworks.
- Liaise, negotiate and maintain formal partnership arrangements with New Zealand early childhood centres, education providers, cultural venues and approved activity suppliers.
- Conduct pre-programme operational planning, risk assessment and alignment of programme design requirements, before group arrival in New Zealand.
- Develop detailed programme design specifications outlining suitable accommodation types, transport formats and activity experiences tailored for young children and accompanying families. Pass these design specifications to contracted travel service providers to complete booking implementation and on-site delivery.
- Provide specialist education travel advice and recommendations to clients on New Zealand early childhood contexts and cultural learning opportunities.
- Complete post-programme feedback collection, review, and analysis to evaluate learning outcomes and refine future educational tour product design.
- Coordinate programme design standards and brief contracted travel service providers to ensure all on-the-ground deliverables match the agreed educational programme intent.
Skills & Experience
- Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese to support cross-cultural communication with Chinese client groups and local New Zealand providers.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification. A qualification in Early Childhood Education is highly relevant and preferred.
- Sound knowledge of early childhood pedagogy and child development theory to design suitable learning activities for preschool children.
- Demonstrated ability to design education-focused programmes, assess learning outcomes and refine programme frameworks.
- Strong planning, organisational and project coordination skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail, problem-solving ability and capacity to adapt programme designs to meet client educational requirements.
- Prior experience in education coordination, study tour product development or early childhood programme planning is an advantage.
- Familiarity with the New Zealand early childhood education context is desirable (training will be provided where required).
