Role Overview:
We are seeking a meticulous and qualified External Auditor to join our team. In this role, you will conduct independent audits of client financial statements, ensure compliance with New Zealand accounting standards, and provide actionable insights to support informed business decisions. You will collaborate closely with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality audit reports, identify risks, and recommend process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and conduct external audit engagements to ensure compliance with applicable financial reporting standards, regulatory guidelines, and auditing standards.
• Perform detailed risk assessments and evaluations to identify critical areas requiring audit attention, effectively allocating audit resources to achieve comprehensive coverage.
• Liaise closely with client teams to obtain relevant audit evidence, documentation, and financial data necessary to complete audit procedures.
• Examine financial statements and records meticulously, providing professional judgment regarding accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting and regulatory standards.
• Prepare thorough audit working papers and reports documenting audit procedures, evidence obtained, and recommendations clearly and accurately.
• Communicate audit findings clearly to clients, addressing any queries or concerns professionally and providing constructive recommendations.
• Participate and provide advisory input in client meetings, including discussions with management, directors, and shareholders as necessary.
• Advise client governing bodies regarding adherence to corporate governance principles, statutory requirements, and best practices in financial reporting and disclosure obligations.
• Assess and report on financial control systems, identifying weaknesses or risks and recommending improvements to internal controls.
• Evaluate treasury functions and financial management practices, including debt, equity, taxation, and securities management, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.
• Analyze complex financial information and financial systems, evaluating the overall financial health, trading performance, cost structures, and efficiency of client organizations.
• Perform specialized audits and investigations as required, producing detailed financial reports and analyses for stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and shareholders.
• Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations and processes, highlighting potential risks and suggesting areas for improvement.
• Review accounting systems and procedures, advising on the implementation of budgetary controls, financial record-keeping, and computerized accounting solutions.
• Clearly define audit objectives and methodologies, ensuring alignment with professional auditing standards and regulatory expectations.
Qualifications and Experience:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field OR
• 2 years of relevant external auditing/public accounting experience in lieu of a degree.
• Experience auditing SMEs and trust entities is an advantage.

Work Hours:
• Full-time position: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM).
