About the job:

Planting operations involve reestablishing or creating new forests.You will need to carry seedlings in a pack on your back, weighing approximately 20 kgs, and plant them using a shovel as you proceed.  Some areas of the country feature hilly, steep terrain, which requires a high level of fitness.

Weed control -  Clearing weeds from plantations using either a chainsaw, machete or chemical sprays.

Scrub cutting - Using a scrub bar to remove small trees and weeds.

Fire fighting  - Creating firebreaks in vulnerable areas for fire prevention and control as well as conducting look-out duties.

All the above duties are carried out in the back blocks of Hawkes Bay. The terrain we work in is physically demanding, and work is carried out in all weather conditions. The role is full-time and ongoing, and you will be expected to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, with the possibility of working up to 40 hours if required.

Job Requirements

  • Physically fit.
  • Able to carry up to 20 kgs on your back while walking up steep terrain.
  • Sober and drug-free - random testing is conducted
  • Love working in the great outdoors.
  • Honest and reliable.
  • Ability to work away from home.
  • Ability to work in all terrain.
  • Transport will be provided to and from the work site.
  • Ongoing training will be provided
