This role is responsible for managing and overseeing asbestos removal projects, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards while efficiently coordinating site operations and workforce activities. The Asbestos Removal Project Manager will lead the team to deliver projects safely, on time, and within scope.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee asbestos removal projects from initiation to completion.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the Asbestos Regulations 2016, health and safety laws, and industry best practices.
- Monitor project progress, identifying potential delays or issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure that all required permits, documentation, and approvals are obtained before commencing work.
- Liaise with clients and project managers to maintain clear communication and project alignment. Adhere to program submitted by client.
Supervision & Leadership
- Lead and manage the asbestos removal team, providing clear instructions and oversight.
- Ensure all site staff are adhering to safety protocols, industry regulations, and company guidelines.
- Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with containment, removal, and disposal procedures.
- Oversee and assist in the safe removal of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), following proper protocols and ensuring correct handling of hazardous materials.
- Ensure the team follows cleaning and decontamination procedures post-removal.
- Coordinate work schedules, assignments, and logistics to optimize efficiency.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to team members as required.
Healthy & Safety Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to asbestos removal safety standards and company policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to mitigate hazards.
- Ensure all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used correctly and that decontamination processes are followed.
- Lead site safety briefings and toolbox talks to reinforce health and safety awareness.
- Ensure that tools and equipment are stored safely when not in use.
- Follow site-specific emergency procedures, including evacuation routes, fire safety, and first aid protocols.
- Report all accidents, near misses, and safety concerns promptly and ensure proper documentation.
- Ensure work areas remain tidy and organized to maintain a safe environment.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of asbestos removal operations, including project plans, risk assessments, and safety documentation.
- Ensure all required air monitoring and clearance testing are conducted and documented.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in asbestos-related legislation and industry best practices.
- Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and calibration of asbestos removal equipment.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and waste disposal regulations, ensuring materials and waste are handled legally and responsibly.
Communication & Coordination
- Act as the main point of contact between site personnel, management, and external stakeholders.
- Communicate with the Operations Manager regarding project updates, challenges, and resource requirements.
- Collaborate with the Transport Manager to coordinate the safe disposal of asbestos waste.
- Maintain clear records of team activities, shift schedules, and work progress.
Transport & Vehicle Safety
- Ensure that all team members drive vehicles and operate equipment safely, in compliance with New Zealand laws, and hold the necessary licenses.
- Drive within speed limits (90 km/h on motorways) and ensure compliance with road safety regulations.
- Never drive under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or any substance that impairs driving ability.
- Do not carry unauthorized passengers.
- In case of an accident, gather the necessary information (vehicle registration, driver's license, insurance details, contact info).
- The driver is responsible for paying any driving offences or infringements.
Administrative Duties
- Review and approve timesheets, ensuring accurate documentation of work hours and overtime.
- Manage project budgets, keeping track of material and equipment costs.
- Compile reports detailing project completion, incidents, and compliance with regulations.
- Oversee the procurement and inventory of tools, PPE, and other project-related materials.
- Assist with project-specific documentation, including safety reports, site assessments, and job completion checklists.
Workplace Wellbeing & Efficiency
- Ensure safe handling, transport, and disposal of asbestos and other hazardous materials.
- Take regular breaks to prevent fatigue and stay alert while operating machinery.
- Promote a safe and productive work environment by ensuring adherence to all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies
