Responsibilities:
- Fitting:
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine material requirements and assembly sequences.
- Accurately measure, mark, cut, shape, and assemble metal parts and components using hand and power tools.
- Fit and align parts to close tolerances, ensuring proper functionality and integration within larger assemblies.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Install machinery and equipment on-site, ensuring correct alignment and operation.
- Welding:
- Perform various welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, MMA) on a range of materials (e.g., steel, stainless steel, aluminum) according to relevant standards and procedures.
- Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, grinding, and ensuring proper fit-up.
- Inspect welds for quality, strength, and adherence to specifications, making necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure it is in safe working order.
- Turning/Machining:
- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other machine tools to produce precision components.
- Read and interpret machining drawings and programs.
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various machining operations and materials.
- Perform machining operations to tight tolerances and surface finishes.
- Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain machinery and perform basic troubleshooting.
- General:
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members, including engineers and other tradespeople.
- Communicate effectively regarding job progress, issues, and solutions.
- Complete job documentation accurately and efficiently.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Be willing to undertake relevant training and development.
Requirements and Skills:

Relevant NZQA unit standards for fitting, welding and fabrication or machining, or at least three years of relevant experience.

Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.

Proficiency in various welding techniques and a good understanding of material properties and welding procedures.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Experience operating manual and/or CNC machine tools and using precision measuring instruments.

Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

A strong understanding of health and safety in a workshop and site environment.

Work may involve exposure to noise, dust, and welding fumes.

Physical demands include lifting heavy materials and working in various positions.

Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.

Must be a NZ Citizen, NZ Resident or eligible to work in NZ.

Advantageous:

Experience in marine fitting.

Some basic electrical knowledge and experience with modern industrial machinery.

Experience in the food processing or wood processing industries.

Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role.

Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.

Site Safe passport.

First aid certification.

The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to work in different locations (Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Nelson-Tasman, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland), providing a unique chance to explore New Zealand's diverse regions.
This is a full-time permanent role, and the hourly pay rate is between NZ$30 and NZ$51, depending on experience and qualification. The work hours are from 30 hours minimum to 70 hours maximum per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
