We seek skilled and experienced Excavator Operators to join our dynamic team. The successful candidates will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of excavators on various construction and civil engineering projects. This role requires a strong focus on safety, precision, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate excavators of various sizes and attachments safely and efficiently, adhering to all relevant regulations and company policies.

  • Perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, and other earthmoving tasks according to project specifications and site plans.

  • Conduct pre-start checks and daily maintenance on machinery, including lubricating, fueling, and reporting any faults or defects.

  • Interpret site plans, blueprints, and grade stakes accurately.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around the machinery.

  • Work collaboratively with other site personnel, including supervisors, engineers, and labourers.

  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.  

  • Identify and report any potential hazards or safety concerns on site.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs on machinery as required.

  • Assist with other site duties as directed by the supervisor. 

  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timelines.

 

Requirements and Skills:

  • Relevant NZQA unit standards for operating an excavator, or at least three years of relevant experience.

  • Strong understanding of earthmoving techniques and procedures.

  • Wheels, Tracks and Rollers (WTR) endorsements on driver’s licence.

  • Site Safe passport.

  • Valid driver's licence (class 2 or higher preferred).

  • Ability to read and interpret site plans and drawings.

  • Excellent operating skills and hand-eye coordination.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Physical fitness.

  • Work will be performed on construction sites and in various outdoor environments.

  • Work may involve exposure to noise, dust, and inclement weather.

  • Physical demands include operating heavy machinery and working in varying terrain.

  • Experience with GPS-guided earthmoving equipment is an advantage.

  • First aid certification is an advantage.

  • Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.

  • Must be an NZ citizen, NZ resident, or eligible to work in NZ.

 

The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to work in different locations (Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Nelson-Tasman, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland), providing a unique chance to explore New Zealand's diverse regions.

 

This is a full-time permanent role, and the hourly pay rate is between NZ$30 and NZ$40, depending on experience and qualification. The work hours are from 30 hours minimum to 70 hours maximum per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
