Responsibilities:

Constructing new vessels according to design specifications and blueprints, utilising a range of materials including fiberglass, timber, composites, and steel.

Performing repairs and modifications to existing vessels, including structural repairs, osmosis treatment, gelcoat repairs, and system upgrades.

Installing and fitting out boat components such as bulkheads, stringers, decks, cabin structures, windows, doors, hatches, machine mountings, propeller supports, and rudders.

Installing mast frames, decking fittings, machine shafts, and safety equipment.

Working with various hand and power tools, ensuring their safe and effective operation.

Applying adhesives, sealants, and coatings to ensure watertight integrity and a high-quality finish.

Reading and interpreting technical drawings, plans, and specifications accurately.

Collaborating effectively with other team members, including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and painters.

Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety regulations and company procedures.

Ensuring all work is completed to a high standard of quality and within agreed timelines.

Potentially assisting with the launching, hauling, and movement of vessels.

Determining repair requirements and procedures.

Troubleshooting and problem-solving issues that may arise during the construction or repair process.

Keeping up-to-date with new materials, techniques, and industry best practices.

May make hull moulds and fabricate and repair vessels using materials such as aluminium, wood, glass, reinforced plastics, carbon fibre, Kevlar fibreglass, and concrete.
Requirements and Skills:

Level 4 NZ Certificate in Boat Building, or at least three years of work as a Boat Builder, Marine Carpenter or relevant experience.

Strong working knowledge of various boat-building materials and techniques.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.

Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A strong understanding of and commitment to health and safety regulations in a marine environment.

A full and clean driver's licence is preferred.

Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.

Must be an NZ Citizen, NZ Resident, or eligible to work in NZ.
The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in different locations (Auckland, Northland, and Bay of Plenty), providing a unique chance to explore New Zealand's diverse regions.
This is a full-time permanent role, and the hourly pay rate is between NZ$28 and NZ$35, depending on experience. The work hours are from 30 hours minimum to 70 hours maximum per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
