Q&Q Supermarket Limited is a fresh produce wholesaler and supplier based in Auckland, specialising in sourcing and distributing high-quality fruits and vegetables to local restaurants. We are seeking a Retail Buyer to manage the procurement process, ensure optimal stock levels, and maintain strong relationships with growers, suppliers, and our commercial clients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse market trends and seasonal availability to determine product demand and pricing strategies for fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Source, select and negotiate with growers, wholesalers, and importers to procure fresh produce at the best quality and price.
  • Monitor stock levels and sales performance to ensure timely replenishment while minimising wastage.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on product quality, delivery timelines, and pricing competitiveness.
  • Liaise with restaurant clients to understand their needs and adjust purchase plans accordingly.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and logistics staff to ensure the timely and safe delivery of fresh produce.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and update inventory systems accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and import regulations
  • Attend produce markets and trade shows to discover new products and suppliers.

 

 Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an NZQF Level 4 qualification in a related field or a bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • Alternatively, at least two years of relevant work experience in retail buying or a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of the fresh produce industry, including seasonality, storage, and transport requirements.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficient in inventory management and procurement software.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced perishable goods environment.
  • Mandarin is an advantage (due to the supplier/client base).
