Data Cabling Technician – Lead Role

BuildME is a dynamic and growing design and build company, currently expanding into a full turnkey solutions provider. As part of this exciting evolution, we are establishing a dedicated Data Cabling Department and are seeking an experienced and motivated technician to lead this initiative.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a skilled Data Cabling Technician with a proactive attitude and strong technical expertise to drive the development of this new department. This full-time role, based in Auckland, reports directly to the Commercial Director and plays a key role in the delivery of our services.
As the lead technician, you will be responsible for managing the entire project lifecycle—from initial planning through to successful completion. You’ll work closely with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure we continue delivering the high-quality service we’re known for. Your ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and build strong professional relationships will be critical to your success in this role.
We are seeking someone with proven experience in data cabling installations and project execution. A strong work ethic, the ability to work autonomously, and a commitment to delivering excellence are essential. The role will be 40 hours per week Monday to Friday on a permanent basis.
Successful applicants will have the following attributes:
- · Excellent project management skills Strong Team Leadership
- · Ability to think outside the square.
- · 3 Years + Experience in Structured Cabling Installation, Security or Audio Visual Solutions preferred.
- · 3 Years + Leading Installation Teams and/or Leading Projects. Will be competent in working on Construction Projects
- · Will be competent in both copper and fibre installations. Clean, current drivers licence
- · Current NZ resident or NZ work visa preferred.

Job Description
Installs internal telecommunications and data cabling, equipment and peripherals for computer networks, telephony, cable television and monitored security and fire alarms.
Skill Level: 3
Tasks Include:
- · examining drawings, specifications and work areas to determine positioning and connections for equipment to be installed
- · locating faults in telecommunications equipment using instruments such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters and transmission measuring equipment
- · attaching wires and cables to appliances
- · adjusting, replacing and repairing faulty items, and testing equipment using electronic instruments
- · installing cabling for telephone, radio, pay TV and computer transmission
- · joining cables and sealing sheaths with lead and thermoplastic erecting, testing and maintaining aerial and underground wires and cables, and radio and mobile phone antennae
- · installing telecommunications equipment and appliances such as telephones, switchboards and data transmission
