Panelbeater

BYD Auto New Zealand Ltd is an Christchurch-based car service company. We are looking for multiple panelbeaters to join us. This is a full time role with a minimum 30 hours per week.

Repair damage to metal, fiberglass, and plastic vehicle bodywork, and fabricate replacement panels.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Removing damaged panels and parts, as well as upholstery and accessories, to gain access.

• Repairing dents by hammering panels back into shape.

• Straightening damaged vehicles and components using mechanical and hydraulic equipment.

• Replacing severely damaged sections with new or second-hand panels.

• Filling depressions with plastic filler, then filing, grinding, and sanding repaired surfaces.

• Cutting and joining replacement sections using welding equipment.

• Installing repaired or replacement panels and refitting body hardware, such as door locks and trims.

• Assist vehicle bodybuilders in constructing and restoring custom-designed, vintage, and specialty vehicles, if required.

• If may also perform spray-painting on vehicles.

The successful candidate must have:

• At least two, ideally three years of relevant work experience or formal relevant certificate level qualification.(NZQF Level 4).
• Good work attitude and good communication skills
• Strong motivation
• Physical fitness and could handle the heavy workload
• Quality workmanship and eye for detail
• Strong dedication to health and workplace safety
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work with other team members.
• Strong ability to work independently
