Eagle Recruitment NZ is seeking skilled and dedicated Slaughterers to join our team. The successful candidates will play a vital role within our client’s processing facilities, contributing directly to the efficient and hygienic processing of meat, such as beef, lamb, and venison, following strict New Zealand food safety regulations and animal welfare standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all aspects of animal slaughtering, including stunning, bleeding, evisceration, and dressing, adhering to established procedures and safety protocols.

     

  • Operate and maintain specialised slaughtering equipment and tools safely and effectively.

     

  • Ensure the highest standards of hygiene and sanitation are maintained throughout the slaughtering process.

     

  • Identify and report any abnormalities or non-compliance with quality or safety standards.

     

  • Adhere to animal welfare guidelines and best practices at all times.

     

  • Work efficiently as part of a team to meet production targets.

     

  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.

     

  • Contribute to a positive and productive work environment.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Level 4 NZ Certificate in Meat Processing and Meat Product Manufacturing, or at least three years of work as a Slaughterer in a commercial meat processing plant.

     

  • Demonstrated understanding of animal anatomy and physiology.

     

  • Proficiency in the use of slaughtering tools and equipment.

     

  • Strong commitment to animal welfare and ethical handling practices.

     

  • Thorough knowledge of New Zealand food safety regulations (e.g., MPI standards) and HACCP principles.

     

  • First Aid certification is an advantage.

     

  • Experience with a variety of animal types is an advantage.

     

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding, and often cold environment.

     

  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on quality.

     

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

     

  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

     

  • Good communication skills.

     

  • Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.

     

  • Must be an NZ Citizen, NZ Resident, or eligible to work in NZ.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in Auckland and Taranaki.

This is a full-time permanent role, and the hourly pay rate is between NZ$25 and NZ$35, depending on experience and qualification. The work hours are from 30 hours minimum to 70 hours maximum per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
