Job purpose: To contribute to overall running of the company by assisting in  servicing diesel machinery and other works as required, completing all jobs safely, on-time, and to a high standard.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Workshop:
Workshop - all duties required for the successful and efficient operation of the workshop. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Maintaining workshop in a clean and tidy manner.
  • Fulfilling all engineering and maintenance requirements on all trucks and machines, as and when their servicing is required, or when instructed by management.
  • Responsible for liaising, directing and educating other employees as required on looking after machines.
  • Perform any other reasonable requests for the operations of the business.
  • Advise Management immediately if any difficulties are encountered with the work being performed or machinery breakdowns etc. This includes the situation where you are unable to complete the work/tasks due to lack of equipment or supplies.

Health and Safety:

  • Abide by all Health & Safety Regulations and Traffic Regulations. Any traffic offences such as speeding will not be tolerated and will be a disciplinary matter. Any fines incurred will be paid for by the driver.
  • Wear correct uniform and PPE gear at all times. Gear that is lost or damaged due to carelessness may result in a deduction from wages for the cost of replacement.
  • Contribute to the following: H&S meetings.
  • Identification and control of hazards on job sites, completing site safety plans.
  • Reporting of accidents and near-misses.
  • Team culture of safety and looking out for 'others'.
  • Tying down machines to legal standards (traffic regulations fines by driver).

Drug and Alcohol Use:
Under NO circumstances, will any taking of illicit drugs or the use of alcohol while at work be tolerated. If these substances are consumed outside of work hours but the effects are still present while you are at work, you will be immediately stood down and investigation will commence. Any damage to equipment or costs incurred that are directly caused by an employee found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be at the expense of that employee.

Administration:

  • Timesheets - maintain an accurate record of all hours worked, equipment and materials used and complete and hand in each day to Yard. If you have not returned to the Yard, timesheets are expected the following morning. Only with agreed circumstances, can they be handed in later.
  • Site safety plans - these are required on all jobs for every day on that job. The person in charge (usually digger driver) of the site completes this. You will be advised if you are in charge of a large site / job where a more comprehensive site safety form needs to be completed. Hand these in with your timesheets.
  • Accident and near-misses - for serious harm, notify the office or Mark immediately. For minor injury and near misses the form must be completed and handed in by the end of the same day of occurrence.

Qualifications:

National Certificate in Motor Industry (Automotive Heavy Engineering) or equivalent or higher.

3 - 4 years relevant work experience

Strong attention to details.
