Are you ready to step into a pivotal Health & Safety leadership role within one of South Canterbury’s key healthcare organisations?

We’re looking for a Senior Health & Safety Adviser to join our team in Timaru, bringing their expertise to a high-trust, high-impact role. Acting as the sole H&S resource for the region, you’ll work closely with frontline staff and senior leaders alike—shaping a culture of safety and wellbeing across a complex and vital service.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading investigations into significant safety events and reviewing Safety 1st reports
  • Driving corrective action plans through to successful completion
  • Coordinating Health & Safety Representatives and facilitating forum meetings
  • Supporting our AEP audit programme, from audits to corrective actions
  • Attending operational meetings as the go-to H&S subject matter expert
  • Helping departments implement new H&S policies and procedures
  • Acting as the trusted on-site point of contact for all things health and safety
  • Coordinating H&S training and contributing to monthly reporting

Who You Are:

You're a confident and capable H&S professional who thrives in autonomous roles. You have a proven ability to influence at all levels, from front-line workers to executive leaders. Ideally, you've worked in health care or a similar complex environment—and you know how to turn H&S from compliance into culture.

What You Bring:

  • A formal qualification in Health & Safety
  • HASANZ or NZISM accreditation (preferred)
  • Strong investigative, audit, and policy implementation experience
  • A collaborative mindset and clear communication skills
  • The ability to juggle multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of care and oversight
