Irrigation Technician wanted

 

Moteo Orchard Ltd is a Napier based company. We are now looking for a Irrigation Technician to join us. This is a full time role with at least 30 hours per week.

Main task: 

The key task of the Irrigation Technician at Moteo Orchard Ltd is to install, operate, and maintain efficient irrigation systems that support optimal water distribution and crop health, using mechanical and technical skills to ensure reliable orchard irrigation system.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

 

  1. Assemble and Install Irrigation Components

    Assemble and install irrigation system components such as pipes, drip lines, filters, and valves using orchard layout maps and mechanical tools.

  2. Operate and Maintain Irrigation Equipment

    Monitor and maintain irrigation pumps, timers, pressure gauges, and filtration units to ensure reliable system performance and minimise downtime.

  3. Conduct Technical Troubleshooting

    Identify and resolve flow issues, leaks, or pressure inconsistencies using mechanical diagnostics and maintenance techniques.

  4. Monitor Water Distribution Efficiency

    Collect data from moisture sensors and flow meters and assist in adjusting irrigation schedules to optimise water use and promote healthy crop growth.

  5. Assist in Layout Optimisation and System Upgrades

    Support the design and upgrade of irrigation zones and layouts, using engineering knowledge to improve coverage, reduce waste, and enhance durability.

  6. Preventative Maintenance and Servicing

    Carry out regular inspections and non-licensed mechanical servicing of irrigation components to prevent blockages, wear, or breakdown.

  7. Document Work and Compliance Records

    Maintain clear records of system performance, maintenance logs, and water usage data to meet environmental and operational requirements.

  8. Collaborate with Orchard Operations

    Work closely with the orchard manager and horticultural team to ensure irrigation schedules align with seasonal and crop-specific needs.

 

The successful candidate must have:

·       At least one year, ideally two or more years of working experience or a formal NZ Level 4  (or equivalent ) qualification.

·       Good work attitude and good communication skills

·       Strong motivation

·       Physical fitness and could handle the heavy workload

·       Quality workmanship and eye for detail

·       Strong dedication to health and workplace safety

·       Excellent interpersonal skills to work with other team members.

·       Strong ability to work independently
