The Opportunity:

They are now seeking an experienced and motivated Sales Manager to lead and support their Auckland-based sales team of 10 (BDMs and Sales Support).

 This is a hands-on leadership role, suitable for someone who thrives on being out in the field with their team—coaching, mentoring, motivating, and actively engaging with customers to win new business.

Sales and operations go hand-in-hand in this business and success depends on strong collaboration between the sales and operations teams. Your understanding of operational realities will be critical, as this is not a “sell at all costs” environment. You will work closely with the operations team to ensure what’s being sold is deliverable and aligned with service capability.

 Therefore, previous experience in operationally driven sectors such as waste, logistics, recycling, courier, or transport will be a strong advantage.

 
The Role:                                                                                     

  • Lead and develop the sales team, building relationships with each team member. 

  • Remain actively engaged in field sales activity—prospecting, customer visits, and team support.

  • Collaborate closely with operations to ensure customer solutions align with service capabilities.

  • Plan and implement sales strategies to drive sales growth, across the team and with individuals.

  • Understand each team member’s unique drivers, strengths, and development areas.

  • Identify skills gaps and coach your team to continually improve.

  • Streamline sales processes to reduce performance barriers and boost productivity.

  • Work with the marketing team to optimize go-to market and lead generation/ sales campaigns.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new sales staff.

  • Create plans to improve lead generation and business development strategies.

  • Take overall responsibility for the relationship with key accounts.

  • Monitor and report on sales metrics and performance outcomes.

  • Performance manage if necessary, addressing underperformance and guiding improvement.

  • Foster a performance-driven culture based on accountability and results—not just rigid KPIs.

About You:

  • Min 5+ years in sales leadership, ideally in a service-based or operationally intensive sector

  • A down-to-earth, hands-on leadership style—visible, approachable, and motivating.

  • Must have experience managing BDMs and a field-based team

  • A natural coach and mentor, adaptable to different personalities and styles

  • Strong commercial acumen with a passion for helping teams succeed.

  • Experience working with operational teams to align commercial outcomes with service capabilities.

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and committed to long-term growth—for the business and your own career.
