We are a furniture retail business offering a wide range of new and second-hand furniture, from essential household items to custom-designed and imported pieces. We’re looking for a Buyer with practical experience in retail purchasing, strong market awareness, and excellent negotiation skills to support our stock sourcing and sales strategy. Starting pay offered from $30-$35 hourly will be fixed according to the skills and experience for 30-40 hours a week. However, this will be reviewed periodically. Any overtime will be paid as per above payrate. In this position, you will be responsible for the following duties:
· Monitor inventory levels and sales trends to identify restocking needs and ensure product availability.
· Source pre-owned furniture directly from individual sellers, including arranging inspections and negotiating fair purchase terms.
· Stay up to date with customer preferences, supplier offerings, and broader market trends to guide product selection and purchasing strategies.
· Communicate with both local and overseas suppliers to arrange orders and secure favourable pricing, delivery terms, and promotional cooperation.
· Assist in planning and executing in-store promotions, pricing strategies, and product displays to enhance customer engagement.
· Liaise with management on seasonal planning, marketing campaigns, and long-term stock and sales strategies.
· Maintain quality standards across all products, inspecting both new and used items before they are displayed or sold.
Qualification requirements:
Minimum two years of previous experience in purchasing or stock sourcing within a busy retail or product-based environment, such as household goods, general merchandise, or customer-facing sales settings.
Strong ability to assess product quality, value, and suitability for resale.
Comfortable negotiating with a wide range of suppliers, including private individuals.
Good understanding of inventory cycles, local customer preferences, and sales-driven product selection.
Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently while meeting timelines.
Willingness to learn about different furniture types, materials, and market segments.
The candidate must be available to work on weekends if required, depending on job schedules or client needs.
The successful candidate must have no criminal convictions and must be able to pass drug and alcohol tests.
