The Company:
Our client is New Zealand’s market leader in the installation, service, and repair of dental and medical equipment, and have more than 50 years of trusted service. With a strong nationwide client base and consistent year-on-year growth, they deliver essential technical services to clinics and DHB’s across the country.
They are seeking to appoint a qualified and experienced Dental In-house Technician to join their Penrose based operation and be responsible for the service, repair, and performance testing of a wide range of dental handpieces and small equipment.
The Dental in-house Technician will be a workshop-based role and will work with fine tools and precision components to ensure every repair meets the highest standards of safety and reliability.
The Role:
Key Responsibilities:

Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot a wide range of dental handpieces (high-speed, low-speed, and electric) in a dedicated workshop setting.

Disassemble, clean, and repair internal components, including turbines, bearings, O-rings, chucks, and spindles.

Replace worn or damaged parts and order spare parts as required.

Use ultrasonic cleaning systems, compressed air tools, and approved lubricants to ensure internal hygiene and functionality.

Calibrate and bench-test repaired handpieces for performance indicators such as RPM, torque, bur retention, and noise/vibration.

Maintain accurate service records, including diagnostics, repairs completed, and parts used.

Ensure strict compliance with infection control, sterilisation, and health and safety protocols.

Maintain a clean, well-organised workbench and contribute to overall workshop efficiency.

Communicate with the service coordinator and team members on repair status and job flow.

Update/maintain all compliance requirements including ensuring all test equipment is current.

Always ensure professional customer support, to suppliers and customers.

Accurately document system errors/faults on customer equipment.

Stay up to date with new models, evolving repair techniques, and relevant compliance requirements.
Skills and Attributes:
-
Proven experience repairing small motors or precision mechanical devices (e.g., dental/medical equipment, watches, electronics, jewelry, or similar).

Knowledge of dental handpiece components and repair methods (advantageous, but full training provided).

Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Comfortable working with delicate components and to tight tolerances.
-
Ability to work independently in a technical workshop environment, managing job turnaround times.

Good documentation and record-keeping skills with attention to accuracy.

Strong time management and organisational skills.
-
Familiarity with infection control and sterilisation standards (preferred)

Workshop or bench repair experience highly regarded.
-
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
-
Demonstrated team leadership skills.
-
Recognized engineering qualification. And EST qualification would be great.

Current drivers license.
