We are looking for a multi-skilled Linking Machinist with experience in mending knitted garments to join our talented and supportive team.
You will be based at our Christchurch premises and are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, during standard business hours. There may be occasional opportunities for additional work on Saturdays. This is a permanent, full-time position, with an hourly pay rate of $27.00 to $30.00, depending on your experience and skill level.
Job Description for this Position

Operate industrial linking machines. This includes setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting the machine to ensure optimal performance and high-quality output.

Must have the ability to operate multi gauge linking machines, 14g, 10g, 8g, 6g

Must possess the ability to link the edges of knitted fabric by precisely matching patterns, sewing stitch by stitch, and aligning markers accurately. This requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure seamless and high-quality joins.

Thread machines, and position garment parts for precise stitching.

Control machine speed using pedals

Inspect stitching for quality and accuracy, ensuring all garments meet high standards.

Perform finishing tasks, including trimming excess material and threads.

Maintain and adjust sewing machines as needed, including changing needles.

Additionally, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs to keep the equipment in excellent working condition.

Inspect knitted garments for flaws, damage or irregularities

Mend holes, runs, and snags and other defects using appropriate techniques

Maintain consistency in textures, tension, and appearance of repairs

Collaborate with production and quality control teams to meet standards
Key Requirements for Successful Applicants

At least two years of experience as a linking machinist or similar is required

Relevant qualification or certificate is an advantage.

Punctual and reliable with a positive can-do attitude will be key in this role

A positive and willing attitude to learn and progress.

Proficiency in various knitting techniques including hand knitting and machine knitting is essential

Attention to detail, precision is crucial when mending knitwear to ensure that repairs are seamless and maintain garments original appearance.

The ability to troubleshoot and find creative solutions for complex repairs

Able to work with deadlines and schedules, and available to work weekends if required.
