Job Title: Courier Driver

Work Schedule: Early morning starts (from 4:30 AM); availability on weekends and public holidays is essential

At Madhu & Ryansh NZ Limited we are currently seeking a reliable and physically fit Courier Driver to join our team in Dunedin. While prior experience is not essential, this is a demanding role that requires excellent time management, strong work ethic, and the ability to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as needed.

This position is ideal for individuals who are self-motivated, physically capable, and committed to meeting tight delivery schedules under varying conditions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Parcel Collection and Delivery
  • Pick up and deliver a range of parcels and packages, including dangerous goods, across designated routes within the Dunedin region.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable transport regulations and safety protocols, especially when handling hazardous substances.

  2. Vehicle Loading and Unloading

  • Manually load/unload goods, ensuring items are secured properly and segregated in accordance with dangerous goods transport standards.

  3. Route Planning and Navigation

  • Efficiently plan delivery routes using GPS and company systems to ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Adjust to delays caused by traffic, weather, or other logistical issues.

  4. Customer Service

  • Provide friendly and professional service during deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and report any issues to management.

  5. Documentation and Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate delivery records including dangerous goods documentation (DGD), delivery manifests, and run sheets.
  • Accurately record and report delivery anomalies or incidents involving dangerous goods.

  6. Vehicle Checks and Maintenance

  • Perform daily vehicle inspections, especially checking for compliance with DG requirements (placards, equipment, spill kits, etc.).
  • Report maintenance or repair needs immediately.

  7. Health & Safety Compliance

  • Comply with all health, safety, and compliance requirements under the Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods 2005.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure safe handling of all goods.

 8. Depot Support

  • Assist with parcel sorting and handling dangerous goods in the warehouse during peak times or when directed by management.

Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements:

  • Valid Full Driver Licence (Class 1) – mandatory

  • Dangerous Goods (DG) Endorsement on Driver Licence – mandatory

  • Physically fit – must be able to lift and carry parcels weighing up to 25 kg throughout the day

  • Must be available for early morning shifts, weekends, and public holidays

  • A responsible attitude towards traffic regulations and safe driving practices

  • Must own a smartphone (Android/iOS) with data access for route tracking and communication

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and under tight delivery schedules

  • Clear criminal background – subject to Ministry of Justice check

  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol testing

  • Familiarity with GPS navigation and courier management software

  • Ability to handle or transport dangerous goods in a commercial setting
