- $28.00 to $32.00 per hour
- Monday to Friday. Minimum 35 hours per week, up to 60 hours per week
Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced construction worker (labourer) to join our team. The duties for this role are:
Site preparation, clearing, levelling, backfilling, and compaction:
Excavator operating is required where necessary, which includes operating the excavator to excavate trenches for services (drainage, water, power), digging foundations, retaining walls and footings. Bulk earthmoving, cutting, and filling.
Drain installation, connection, and repair (under supervision by a licensed drainlayer or site foreman):
Laying and fixing wastewater and stormwater pipes that carry sewage, surface water, or other waste away from buildings. Installing new drains for houses, subdivisions, or commercial buildings. Repairing or replacing damaged or blocked drains.
Other duties:
- Study and further comprehend the specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layouts and determine dimensions and materials required
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times
- Measure, cut, or shape timber, plastic, fibreglass, and other construction materials as needed
- Prepare formwork for foundations and concrete pours
- Erect and construct frameworks and walls under supervision
- Install cladding and trusses under supervision
- Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures
- Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures under supervision
- Work on top of stilts, ladders, scaffolding, or top beams of buildings, as required
- Perform other reasonable construction-related tasks on building and construction sites when required by the foreman or supervisor
We are looking for the following qualities in candidates for this role:
- Have at least one year of proven relevant work experience in the construction industry
- Familiarity with using power tools and hand tools that are necessary for your role
- Have basic reading skills related to the current New Zealand Construction Standards.
- Willing to undergo Drug and Alcohol Screening and provide a police clearance if requested
- Full NZ Driver’s Licence
- A basic understanding of New Zealand’s plumbing and electrical systems will be considered an advantage
- Experience in digger, excavator, and bulldozer operations will be considered a plus
- A good attitude and reliability, and be able to work unsupervised where fit
- Hardworking and enthusiastic about the role
- Be able to work as part of a team and travel from site to site

- Be physically able to stand for long periods, and heavy lifting is required
