Job Description:

Basin Noodle House is a busy restaurant serving Chinese cuisine in Wellington. We are currently seeking two full-time cooks to join our team. This is a permanent, full-time position, offering 30–40 hours per week on a roster basis (minimum 30 hours guaranteed). The hourly rate ranges from $28.00 to $30.00, depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

•   Examine foodstuffs to ensure freshness, quality, and compliance with hygiene standards.

•   Regulate and monitor the temperature of woks, ovens, grills, fryers, and other kitchen equipment to ensure proper and safe cooking.

•   Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including main meals, side dishes, and sauces.

•   Season food appropriately during cooking to ensure consistent taste and presentation.

•   Portion food, plate dishes, and apply gravies, sauces, and garnishes in line with portion control standards and presentation guidelines.

•   Store food in temperature-controlled environments according to food safety regulations.

•   Prepare meals to meet special dietary needs (e.g. vegetarian, gluten-free, allergen-specific).

•   May assist with planning menus and estimating food requirements, considering seasonal availability and customer preferences.

•   May train, supervise, and support junior kitchen staff or apprentices in cooking techniques and safety practices.

•   Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, ensuring all areas meet hygiene and safety standards.

•   Comply with all food hygiene, health and safety, and workplace regulations.

•   Any other duties that may be assigned by the owner.

Requirements for this role:

•   At least 1 year of relevant work experience or a relevant NZ Level 2 qualification.

•   Willingness to work nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.

•   Must be drug-free and have a clean police record.

We also expect these skills from candidates:

•   Strong knowledge of food preparation and kitchen safety. Knowledge of Chinese cuisine or experience is an advantage.
