Data Scientist / AI Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Data Scientist / AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy advanced AI solutions for real-world challenges. This role involves building and scaling machine learning models, creating robust data engineering pipelines, and leveraging the latest GenAI and MLOps practices to deliver high-impact solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to translate business needs into AI-powered systems, ensuring scalability, accuracy, and measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with teams and clients to define specifications for AI-driven solutions.

   

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and monitoring systems to support machine learning lifecycle.

• Design, train, and deploy AI/ML models for applications in marketing optimization, document intelligence, forecasting, and generative AI.

• Implement MLOps best practices including CI/CD, automated retraining, and deployment pipelines using Terraform and GitHub Actions.

   

• Develop and fine-tune models in computer vision, NLP, and large language models (LLMs) for tasks like extraction, classification, and forecasting.

   

• Leverage frameworks like PyTorch, HuggingFace, LangChain, and Scikit-learn for efficient experimentation and deployment.

   

• Create monitoring and alerting systems using Google Cloud Monitoring & Logging to ensure reliability and system health.

   

• Optimize models for latency and scalability using GPU acceleration (TorchScript, ONNX, CUDA).

   

• Conduct research on emerging AI technologies and implement them into practical solutions.

   

• Mentor junior team members and contribute to building internal AI platforms.

Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Operations Research, or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in designing, building, and deploying ML/AI solutions in production.
• Strong expertise in Python, PyTorch, HuggingFace, Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy.
• Hands-on experience in marketing analytics (MMM models, forecasting), computer vision, NLP, and LLM-based applications.
• Proficiency in Docker, Git, cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS), Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with vector databases, RDBMS (MongoDB, PostgreSQL), and scalable data architectures.
• Experience with MLOps workflows including model retraining, monitoring, and automated deployment.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Track record of innovation, delivering measurable results, and mentoring team members.

A successful candidate will need to be flexible to work different shifts as some of our clients are based overseas. To be considered for this role you should be able to provide previous work references and qualifications. Working on weekends and on- calls (if required).

Hourly wage rate: $32 - $37 per hour depending on experience and skills.

Preference will be given to candidates who are already in New Zealand and has relevant work experience.

All suitable candidates should be able to pass a drug test and a Ministry of Justice/Police check when required.
