Are you a hands-on, self-motivated couple with a passion for horticulture and the outdoors? We’re looking for two gardeners/caretakers to maintain and enhance the gardens and grounds of two large, private residential properties in a stunning remote island environment.
About the Role
Working closely with the Compound Managers, you’ll help maintain the visual and functional excellence of the properties through gardening, grounds care and general maintenance. You will also assist in broader island operations as required, all while adhering to the rural, predator-free and farm policy guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- General gardening duties – pruning, planting, weeding, irrigation and flax trimming
- Care and maintenance of vegetable gardens, orchards, lawns and tracks
- Spraying programmes – safe use, storage and cleaning of chemicals and equipment
- External property maintenance, general cleaning and rubbish removal
- Re-fuelling and cleaning of vehicles and machinery
- Support for broader island operations – including barge days, conservation work and biosecurity
- Other duties as reasonably required
What we are looking for?
We are seeking a couple who are professional, discreet and trustworthy, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with property, farming, and conservation staff. Ideal candidates are self-starters who take pride in their work, follow direction well and demonstrate a proactive, positive attitude. Physical fitness, attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness and presentation are essential for success in this role.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven horticultural knowledge, especially with native plantings in coastal environments
- Experience in propagation and productive gardening (vegetables & orchards)
- Good mechanical aptitude; ability to follow and implement maintenance schedules
- Boating skills and relevant qualifications are highly desirable
