Donald Engineering is seeking skilled and experienced fitters/welders to join our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and welding metal
components, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.

ABOUT US:We are a busy workshop based between Gore and Invercargill the manufactures and installs dairy shed equipment including rotary platforms, afi sort gates, build and repair all sorts of ag equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Cutting, shaping, and fitting metal components.
  • Performing various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, ARC) according to project
    requirements.
  • Inspecting and testing welds for quality and integrity.
  • Assembling and fitting fabricated components.
  • Using hand and power tools to perform fitting tasks.
  • Ensuring accurate alignment and fit of components.
  • Performing maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical issues.
  • Adhering to all health and safety regulations, including the use of appropriate PPE.
  • Conducting pre-work safety checks.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ensuring all work meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Performing quality checks and inspections.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work completed.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Relevant NZQA unit standards for welding, fabrication, or fitting, or at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Site Safe passport an advantage.
  • Valid driver's licence an advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills.
  • First aid certification is an advantage.
  • Work may involve exposure to noise, dust, and welding fumes.
  • Physical demands include lifting heavy materials and working in various positions.
  • Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.
  • Must be a NZ Citizen, NZ Resident or eligible to work in NZ.

The successful applicants will need to be based in the Southland area.

This is a full-time permanent role, and the hourly pay rate is between NZ$30.00 and NZ$45.00, depending on experience and qualification. This is a full time position worked between Monday and Friday between 7 am and 5 pm. Work during weekends may be required.
