Small Engine Mechanic

About the role

STIHL SHOP Motueka is seeking two experienced and reliable Small Engine Mechanics to join our friendly team.
You’ll be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of outdoor power equipment, including chainsaws, lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, and other small-engine machinery. Weekend work may be required during peak seasons (spring and summer).

Key tasks and responsibilities

• Receive machines from customers and discuss repair or maintenance needs.

• Diagnose faults, carry out servicing, and perform mechanical and electrical repairs.

• Inspect and test repaired equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.

• Recommend and fit correct replacement parts and accessories.

• Maintain workshop tools and equipment in good condition.

• Record repair details, parts used, and time spent using the job management system.

• Provide technical advice and customer support in-store when required.

• Follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to a clean, efficient workshop.

Minimum skills, experience, and qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in mechanical repair (small engines, automotive, or similar technical work), or a relevant trade qualification in Small Engine, Automotive, or Outdoor Power Equipment.

• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

• Good communication and customer service abilities.

• Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks safely.

• A positive attitude and ability to work effectively in a small team.

Hours of work

• Full-time, minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.

• Typical hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

• Some Saturday work during peak season (spring/summer) may be required on a rostered basis.
