March Cato are a civil engineering business working in greater Auckland region to deliver 3 Waters projects for our clients. This work includes pipe-jacking, tunnelling, pump stations, deep open trenching, sheet piling and shaft construction. All roles for March Cato are in service of delivering 3 waters infrastructure, which is our core business.  

The Pipe Installation Technician is a skilled part of the workforce of our site-based construction crews. They are responsible for the installation and maintenance of pipe systems as well as supporting construction teams delivering 3 Waters projects. Flexibility and readiness to travel and perform duties across the greater Auckland region as operational needs dictate is essential. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with the Site Supervisor to plan work, progress ideas and effectively deliver projects on time and to budget, while keeping all people, equipment and assets safe. This includes interpreting of engineering plans, drainage designs, site layouts etc and is an important skill.
  • Responsible for putting the safety and health of yourself, and all other persons you work with, as a priority in any situation.
  • Proactively contribute to the planning, coordination, and preparation of materials, plant, and equipment to ensure operational readiness for daily activities.
  • Support the Site Supervisor in the preparation, precise installation of pipework and reinstatement.
  • Pipe Installation activities, including measuring, cutting and installing pipes of all different sizes (100-2000+mm) and materials (HDPE, GRP, CLS and Concrete pipes) in varying ground conditions and environments ensuring leak free connections in deep open trenches and shafts. 
  • Conducting pressure tests, disinfection and pipe repairs.
  • Operate plant and specialised equipment autonomously, demonstrating a high level of technical proficiency and accountability.
  • Act as Spotter for mobile plant on site coordinating movements safely around underground and overhead hazards e.g. services and utilities.
  • Adhere strictly to operational protocols for the care, maintenance, and safe handling of all plant and equipment.
  • Identify and report any equipment or plant malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime and maintain site safety standards.
  • Fabrication of formwork, reinforcement fixing and concrete placement for related concrete structures including benching, thrust blocks and corbels etc.
  • Actively participate in ongoing professional development, attending training courses / programs as directed to continually enhance technical expertise and industry knowledge.
  • Work in crews installing pipe work via trenchless or open cut techniques.
  • Work in crews maintaining pipeworks and pump stations.
  • Plan and undertake confined space works.
  • Use March Cato reporting tools, eg Procore’s Observation Tool, when required.
  • Prepare for works for each shift for the tasks being undertaken on the day.
  • Help pack the site down each evening to ensure that the site is safe and not easily accessed, including closing and securing fence panels, storing tools, plant, materials and equipment in the site containers to help prevent damage, theft or vandalism.
  • Take pride in the site and help keep it safe, tidy and respectable including picking up litter and waste materials and sweeping/brooming the site and office, cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment as required etc.
  • Complete a daily timesheet electronically.
  • Flexibility and readiness to travel and perform duties across the greater Auckland region as operational needs dictate.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, supporting their development and technical understanding.
  • Anything else incidental to the role.

You’ll need

Essential:

·       3+ years’ experience of working within civil construction crews on projects including deep trench work, pipelaying, tunnelling, relining and work in pump stations.

·       Knowledge of Watercare processes, extensive experience of working around services and knowledge of Auckland ground conditions

·       Verified competency assessments for spotting and power tools.

Preferred:

·       Ideally will hold a full NZ drivers’ licence with WTR

·       Current First Aid and Confined Space tickets

March Cato will provide competitive remuneration on a weekly pay cycle, good hours and a chance to grow and develop your skills in our industryPPE provided.  Hourly rate is $32-37 dependent on skills and experience. We guarantee 40 hours of work a week available.
