Position Purpose:
The primary focus of this role is as a Diesel Mechanic, responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing the company’s fleet of agricultural and transport machinery. The role ensures equipment is safe, reliable, and operating efficiently throughout the silage and cropping seasons.

From time to time, the employee may also be required to assist with agricultural machinery operator (AMO) duties, such as driving tractors, loaders, or other farm equipment to support silage, cultivation, and harvesting operations as needed.
 
Key Competencies and Attributes:
•    Trade qualification or proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic (minimum 3 years).
•    Experience operating agricultural or heavy machinery in silage or cropping operations.
•    Strong diagnostic, mechanical, and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to work independently and take initiative.
•    Good communication and teamwork skills.
•    Flexible to work extended hours, weekends, and public holidays during busy seasons.
 
Desirable Skills:
•    HT Class 4/5 licence and W endorsement preferred.
•    Welding or fabrication experience.
•    Basic hydraulic and auto-electrical knowledge.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical Maintenance and Repair
•    Diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines, tractors, trucks, harvesters, and other machinery.
•    Perform scheduled maintenance and preventative servicing to minimise breakdowns.
•    Maintain accurate records of repairs, servicing, and parts used.
•    Identify mechanical faults early and report them promptly.
•    Liaise with suppliers or external service providers for major repairs.


2. Machinery Operation
•    Operate agricultural machinery for silage, cultivation, planting, and harvest operations.
•    Drive and operate tractors, mowers, balers, loader wagons, and trucks as required.
•    Follow correct operating procedures to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient work.
•    Assist with transporting machinery and materials between sites.
 
3. Health and Safety
•    Follow all company and legislative health and safety requirements.
•    Ensure machinery is maintained to safe operating standards.
•    Wear appropriate PPE and participate in safety meetings and training.


4. Record Keeping and Communication
•    Maintain service logs, fuel records, and work reports accurately.
•    Communicate regularly with managers about equipment status, job progress, and safety concerns.
•    Support other staff during peak workloads or when mechanical issues arise
