Hi-Tech Metal Fabrications are seeking an experienced CNC Laser Setter/Operator to work with leading edge AMADA CNC controlled fiber laser machines in their Auckland-based factory in East Tamaki.

Job Summary:

The operator’s main tasks are to ensure the safe and efficient running of the Amada laser cutting machines. The operator will be responsible for the correct cutting of the parts we manufacture and keeping the machine in a clean and well-maintained condition.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • studying drawings and ensuring the required tolerances (+/- 0.1mm) are adhered to
  • checking all nesting documentation to enable the correct processing of each unique job
  • sourcing correct material from stock and positioning and loading it on to the machine
  • regular changing of laser nozzles (installing, aligning and maintaining)
  • setting guides, stops and other controls on machine
  • monitor machine while working to adjust settings such as feedrates, power, duty, gas pressure and nozzle gaps
  • check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects if required
  • checking laser cut parts for accuracy and ensuring they are to the required quality using digital measuring instruments
  • is responsible for scheduled maintenance of the machine and keeping it in good running order
  • identifying faults and repairing if necessary or co-ordinating with service engineers

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven experience as a laser operator
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements
  • Knowledge of the properties of all metal kept in stock
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Good at math with analytical abilities
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
  • Fluent written and spoken English and the ability to understand engineering drawings

 

Education and Experience:

  • At least three years of experience setting and operating a CNC Fiber Laser.
  • Hourly rate of between $28 - $38 will be negotiable once experience has been established.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically able to operate the laser machine.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying materials.
  • Must be able to lift 25 kilos at a time.
