** Fibre Technician Required**
Mindfield Telecom Limited is a contractor company of Downer which is involved in rolling out ultra-fast broadband throughout New Zealand. We are specialists in UFB Build & Fibre connections for residential (SDU) and Business customers. We are currently looking for a qualified and experienced fibre technician to join our team. You should have a positive attitude and be willing to learn. You must be mature and responsible when it comes to dealing with tough situations.
Your duties will include but not limited to:
- Read and Design network plans, specifications, and work areas to determine positioning and connections for equipment to be installed
- Implementing telecommunication networks and ensuring efficient use of applications
- Provisioning of Fibre for ROW or SDU customers
- Build ROW for more than 2 houses
- Fibre cable hauling, splicing & handling, and ROW cabling
- Hauling aerial and underground cable from Fibre Access Terminal to Customers’ FTP
- Installation and programming of Optical Network Terminal (ONT), SFP ONT & Broadband Modems
- Coordinate to ISP for the activation of broadband modem and telephone lines
- Troubleshooting and fixing fibre optic faults, Phone lines, Internet connection
- Replacing and repairing faulty items when needed
- Installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications equipment and data transmission equipment such as ONT, SFP ONT, Router/modem, etc.
- Tracing and locating underground cable faults. Performing outside boundary remediation (OSB) to fix underground faults on both concrete and soft surface
- Concrete slot cutting and trenching
- Ability to communicate effectively to different sections of the installation process that includes service providers and dispatch centre
- Scoping — Meeting customer and agreeing on the best possible options for fibre connections from FAT to FTP in accordance with Chorus Standards during the build and connect stages
- Maintains the inventory of cables and stock equipment Including reordering stock equipment and pans
- Making sure the entire installation from within the network up to the FTP is done in accordance with Chorus standard
To be successful in your application, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Relevant Qualification and minimum 6 months of relevant work experience
- First Aid Level 1, Basic Traffic Controller (TC1), Electrical Supply Industry Safety (WTC1), Working at Heights (WTC3) Certificates
- Protecting the Network (PTN) Accreditation training
- Experience in working with wiring in both residential and business premises
- Be competent with hand/power tools, and other technical equipment
- Full Clean Class 1 New Zealand Driver License
- Excellent fitness and physical ability to carry out manual tasks
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces such as house basements
- Enjoy coming to work and willing to be part of a team
- Weekend availability with flexible hours
- No Criminal Record
