Nursery Worker 

Ohinewai Harvest is seeking dedicated and hardworking Nursery Workers to join our team and support our plant production operations.

 

Position Details:

-        Role Type: Full-time, permanent

-        Position: nursery worker

-        Work region: Waikato

-        The minimum guaranteed hours of work per week: 30 hours

-        The maximum hours of work per week: 50 hours

-        The minimum and maximum rate of pay or salary: $26-$30 per hour (depending on skills and experience)

 

Job Description:

·       Propagate and cultivate blueberry plants and other nursery stock in accordance with farm production schedules.

·       Prepare potting media, containers, and trays before planting.

·       Select suitable seeds, bulbs, and cuttings, and plant them in designated nursery beds or pots for propagation.

·       Perform budding and grafting tasks to produce plants with desired characteristics and improved growth performance.

·       Water plants manually and control automatic watering operations.

·       Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments to manage pests, diseases, weeds, and nutritional and environmental plant disorders.

·       Monitor plant growth and health, identify and report any signs of pests, diseases, or environmental stress to the supervisor/manager.

·       Maintain accurate records of plant propagation, soil mixtures, plantings, treatments, losses and yields

·       Assist with general nursery maintenance, cleaning, and organization to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.

 

Requirements:

·       Two years of related experience OR

·       Level 4 qualification in a related field.

 

Attributes and Skills:

·       Physical – Performing physical activities for most of the working day that will involve standing, crouching and reaching. Heavy lifting will be required at times.

·       Must be able to work fast, pruning, cutting, potting

·       Teamwork -  ability to work with multiple people to achieve production objectives

·       Work ethic – focus on meeting/ exceeding targets and set quality standards

·       Flexibility to work on a rotating roster, including weekends when required
