Hutt Concrete Products is seeking a hands-on Precaster Leading Hand to take responsibility for day-to-day production in our precast factory based in Upper Hutt.
You will lead a small team of 2–3 precasters while working under the direction of the Foreman/Workshop Manager.
This is a practical leadership position — you’ll be actively involved in mold setup, reinforcing, concrete pouring, finishing, curing, and quality checks while ensuring safety and efficiency on the floor.
 
We’re looking for someone reliable, safety-minded, and proud of quality workmanship who can lead by example and help meet production targets.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and participate in daily precast concrete operations
  • Prepare molds, place reinforcing, pour and finish concrete to specification
  • Cut, Bend and Tie Reinforcing Cages 
  • Conduct pre-pour and post-pour inspections and maintain QA documentation
  • Ensure compliance with NZS 3109 and NZS 3114 standards for concrete products
  • Participate in Toolbox talks and promote safe work practices
  • Mentor junior staff and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Report progress and issues to the Foreman/Workshop Manager
 
Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in precast concrete or related civil/construction work
  • Sound knowledge of formwork, reinforcing, and concrete finishing methods
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and production schedules
  • Demonstrated leadership or team coordination experience
  • NZ Certificate in Concrete Construction (Trade) or equivalent NZQF Level 4 qualification, or comparable overseas trade qualification
  • Forklift licence
  • Gantry crane License 
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety standards
 
Conditions of Employment
  • Minimum 42.5 guaranteed hours per week (full-time)
  • Overtime available as required
  • All tools and PPE provided
Pay rate: $28 – $32 per hour (NZD), depending on experience and qualifications
Hours: 42.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 7 am – 4 pm)
