March Cato are a civil engineering business working in greater Auckland region to deliver 3 Waters projects for our clients. This work includes pipe-jacking, tunnelling, deep open trenching, sheet piling, and shaft construction. All roles for March Cato are in service of delivering 3 waters infrastructure, which is our core business.

About the role:

The Grout Pump Operator is responsible for running and maintaining pumps, plant and related equipment. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to always follow safety protocols.

Applicants must have the following:

  • Previous experience as a Grout Pump Operator working as part of a crew on a drainage, tunnelling or pipeline project.
  • Strong knowledge of Tunnelling and Trenchless equipment.
  • Be a team player who holds the health, safety and wellbeing of the crew and the project team as an absolute priority.
  • Full NZ drivers’ licence to get to and from work. 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor pump equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Start, stop, and regulate pump operations as needed.
  • Perform diagnostics, servicing, repairs, and routine maintenance.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and product quality tests. Quickly find and fix any problems or defects to keep work running smoothly.
  • Record operational data such as updating logbooks, pressure readings, flow rates, and fuel levels. 
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, conduct scheduled maintenance checks, and replace worn parts to prevent breakdowns.
  • Respond to machinery breakdowns in the field, ensuring minimal downtime and prompt restoration of services.
  • Mentor apprentices and collaborate with Project Engineers and Supervisors.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Any other general duties incidental to the works
