We are seeking a Junior Civil Engineer with Basic Filipino Interpreter Officer to join our growing foundation construction team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in residential and commercial foundation works, supporting the delivery of high-quality projects across Canterbury.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the role includes acting as a Tagalog interpreter for site coordination and communication, helping bridge communication between management and team members to ensure clarity and smooth operations.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- 
Supervise and monitor site activities, including excavation, formwork, steel placement, and concrete pouring.
 - 
Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with specifications, building codes, and safety standards.
 - 
Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and the operations team to ensure smooth workflow.
 - 
Communicate and interpret instructions for Tagalog-speaking site staff when required.
 - 
Perform material take-offs and assist with project scheduling and costings (reviewed by Director/LBP).
 - 
Support health and safety practices, risk assessments, and site documentation with the Health and Safety Representative.
 - 
Collect site data for reporting and project progress tracking.
 - 
Participate in training and development to enhance foundation engineering skills.
 
Job Requirements
- 
1–2 years of construction experience, preferably in foundations, concrete, geotech or structural work.
 - Knowledge of geotechnical principles and soil/ground conditions relevant to foundation works.
 - 
Strong communication skills in both English and Tagalog for interpreting and site coordination.
 - 
Willingness to start early (from 4:00 am) due to concrete pouring operations.
 - 
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
 - Basic knowledge of Xero is a bonus, as the role will involve approving bills under $5,000 and supporting financial reporting for back costings.
 - 
Valid Driver’s License.
 
Required Qualifications and Certifications
- 
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
 - Must have passed their Licensing Board (e.g., in NZ or other countries).
 - 
Familiarity with engineering/design software: AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD Pro, Geo5, and RCDC.
 - 
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe tools.
 - 
Experience with estimating and costings for construction projects.
