We are looking for a motivated wastewater plant operator who enjoys hands-on outdoor work for the operation and servicing of wastewater systems.

You’ll work with experienced technicians and sometimes on your own in the field, depending on the workload. You’ll also have a supportive office team to help when needed.

We’re looking for a reliable and self-motivated person who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and can add value from day one.
Key tasks include:
- Operating, maintaining, and servicing wastewater systems.
- Relay information to site and from the site back to management.
- Report on the systems via basic job management systems.
- Scheduled servicing of wastewater systems.
- Accompany senior technicians and engineers to resolve complex wastewater problems together.
- Procure materials as and when needed to maintain operations.
- Form and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
- Attend urgent callouts, trouble shoot, fault find, and solve technical problems in the field.
- Read drawings, create asbuilts, and interpret technical information.
- Developing BOMs and ordering materials.
- Assign the co-ordination of day-today operations.
- Developing proforma and other documentation.
- Trouble shooting, fault finding, and solving technical problems in the field.
- Take wastewater samples from systems and deliver samples to the Watercare laboratory.
- Interpret sample results and make adjustments to wastewater systems to improve.
- Provide measured data, photos, and field notes for engineering assessments.
- Compile reports, proformas, and other documentation relating to wastewater treatment and disposal operations.
Our ideal candidate will have/be:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A tertiary qualification that is equivalent to a New Zealand Diploma (NZQF level 4 or higher) in civil engineering and/or wastewater treatment.
- A demonstrated understanding of wastewater treatment and disposal systems
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office and job management systems; ability to learn industry-specific software.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Able to work with wastewater.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a field-based environment.
- Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and creating as-built documentation.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices in wastewater operations.
Minimum 40 hours per week. Pay range of $28.50-32 per hour, depending on experience.
